Supporting your employees during times of racial unrest and riots

Resource

It’s crucial to support employees during times of racial unrest, such as riots and protests. Due to recent events that have taken place, we have found that many people are afraid to leave their homes and go to work. It is important that we are there for employees affected by these events as well as offer ongoing support in the workplace. Please see the resources below to support any employees that may be struggling during this time.

Combatting Racism

Stand Up to Racism UK:

Stand Up to Racism UK, an organisation dedicated to combating racism and promoting equality, has launched the ‘Stop the Far Right: Emergency Unity Fund’. This fund will be utilized to organize additional protests, host more events, and produce materials aimed at fighting racism and fostering unity. Hope Not to Hate:

Hope Not Hate focuses on countering the organised far right and addressing the issues that contribute to their rise. They strengthen communities by promoting unity, building resilience, and empowering ordinary people to oppose hatred. Committed to defending democracy and the rule of law, Hope Not Hate invests in their team and supporters, ensuring they remain agile in responding to current extremist threats. Rooted in the British antifascist movement, they continuously adapt to meet today’s challenges. About Us – HOPE not hate

The Exit Hate Trust:

Exit Hate is a registered charity comprising individuals from diverse backgrounds. Now operating under the name Exit Hate Trust, the organisation was originally established in 2017 as a community group with the goal of supporting others through the power of lived experiences. As an organisation, some members are former political activists who were once involved in extremism, while others have had family members caught up in extremist movements. This firsthand experience gives them a deep understanding of the impact extremism can have, both on those who become involved and on their loved ones. Home | Exit Hate Trust

Attend Anti-Racism Marches Only If You Feel It Is Safe

Stand Up to Racism is coordinating a national day of protest on August 10 to express solidarity with refugees and affirm their welcome in our communities. While this event is an important demonstration of support, your personal safety must come first.

Before attending, carefully assess the safety of the situation:

  • Evaluate Risks
  • Stay Informed
  • Consider Alternatives

Remember, the goal is to stand against racism and support refugees while ensuring that you and others are safe. Your safety is important, so make sure to take the necessary precautions before deciding to participate.
